SMOKE CONDITION

Lawrence High School,
2525 Princeton Pike, Lawrence Township

At 10:39 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2005, Mercer County Central Communications Center transmitted Box 22-11 and dispatched volunteers from the Lawrence Road, Slackwood and Lawrenceville fire companies, along with an ambulance from Lawrence First Aid Squad, for an activated fire alarm at Lawrence High School at 2525 Princeton Pike.

Telesquirt 22 and Engine 22 responded, along with Snorkel 21 and Telesquirt 23. Firefighters arrived to find the school evacuated. Telesquirt 22's crew quickly discovered that some smoke accidentally given off by an oil deep fryer had set off the alarm system in the kitchen of the school's cafeteria and that there was no fire. The incident commander, Lawrence Road Capt. Michael Byrd, recalled Snorkel 21 and Telesquirt 23. The crews from Telesquirt 22 and Engine 22, meanwhile, remained on location until the school's alarm system was properly reset.
