MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT

Lawrence Station Road,
Lawrence Township

On Friday, July 22, 2005, Lawrence Township police, a Lawrence First Aid Squad ambulance, a Capital Health System paramedic crew, and firefighters from all three Lawrence Township fire companies were dispatched at 1:22 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle traffic accident involving a car that had crashed into the woods and possibly overturned in front of 336 Lawrence Station Road.

At the time, Engine 22 was assisting Ewing Township firefighters at the scene of a major three-vehicle accident on Ewingville Road and a crew from Slackwood Fire Co. was standing by at Ewing's Prospect Height's Fire Co. (Station 31).

As a result, Engine 14-1 from Hamilton Township's Hamilton Fire Co. was also dispatched to Lawrence Station Road.

Engine 22's crew was released from Ewingville Road by Command 31 and immediately returned to the Lawrence Road firehouse to man Rescue 22.

Engine 22 was commanded by Deputy Chief John Fleming, driven by Paid Driver Robert Santello, and crewed by Capt. Michael Byrd, Ff. R.J. Laird, Ff. Joseph Dlabik Jr., and Ff. Evan Kutzin.

At 2:27 p.m. Lawrence Road Chief Wayne Hannon, in Car 22, arrived on Lawrence Station Road and discovered that a car had veered off the road and crashed into the woods.

The car was so shielded by overgrowth that it was not visible from the road. However the vehicle was not overturned and the driver, a woman, was not trapped, nor was she injured.

At that time, Slackwood Deputy Chief Richard Johnson recalled all apparatus with the exception of Rescue 21.

Rescue 21 proceeded in at non-emergency speed and arrived at 1:32 p.m. Rescue 21's crew stood by while a tow truck operator pulled the vine-covered car from the woods.
