STRUCTURE FIRE 60 Woodland Avenue,
During the evening of Tuesday, August 23, 2005, a crew of Lawrence Road Fire Co. firefighters responded into Ewing Township as the rapid intervention team at a working structure fire.
The blaze at 60 Woodland Avenue was discovered by Ewing Township police officers responding to a street disturbance in the area.
It was 6:35 p.m. when police reported the fire and Mercer County Central Communications Center transmitted Box 32-10.
Dispatched at that time were the Pennington Road (Station 32), Prospect Heights (Station 31) and West Trenton (Station 33) fire companies.
Lawrence Road's Rescue 22 from was added to the assignment at 6:39 p.m. as the rapid intervention team.
Ewing firefighters arrived on the scene at 6:39 p.m. to find smoke showing from the 2.5-story dwelling.
Police officers had already gained entry and had used fire extinguishers to attack the flames in the home's front foyer.
Two 1.75-inch hoselines were placed into service and the bulk of the fire was knocked down by 6:49 p.m.
Rescue 22 signed on radio at 6:41 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 6:47 p.m.
Rescue 22's crew assembled their tools, checked in as the rapid intervention team with the incident commander, and took a standby position on the lawn at the Side A/B corner of the structure.
The blaze was officially placed under control at 6:56 p.m. Ewing firefighters then performed overhaul and ventilation operations.
Actual fire damage was contained to a small area of the floor and wall at the front of the home, however the entire house sustained smoke damage.
Rescue 22 was released from the scene at 7:19 p.m. and was back in quarters at Station 22 by 7:26 p.m.
