MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT
Lawrence Road at Princeton Avenue,
At 11:29 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2005, Lawrence Road Fire Co. was dispatched to the intersection of Lawrence Road and Princeton Avenue (also known as Harney's Corner) for a reported motor vehicle accident with possible fire.
Rescue 22 responded at 11:32 a.m. with Capt. Michael Ratcliffe in command, Ff. Joseph Dlabik Sr. driving, and a crew of Ff. Joseph Dlabik Jr., Ff. Brian Laue, Ff. Ryan Dlabik, Ff. R.J. Laird and Ff. Andrew Fosina.
Rescue 22 arrived on location at 11:33 a.m. to find two vehicles -- one with heavy front-end damage, the other with damage to the front passenger's side -- sitting in the northbound lane of Lawrence Road.
There appeared to be light smoke coming from one of the vehicles, so firefighters stretched a 1.75-inch hoseline. But after a quick check of the auto, firefighters discovered that there was no fire and that it was only steam.
No one was complaining of any injuries, however, various fluids were leaking from the wrecked autos. Rescue 22's crew immediately began applying speedie-dry to soak up the spilled fluids.
As the accident was actually located just within Lawrence Township Fire District 1, and additional speedie-dry was needed, Ratcliffe directed Mercer County Central to dispatch Slackwood Fire Co. at 11:36 a.m.
Slackwood Chief Michael Oakley and Rescue 21 both responded and arrived on scene by 11:41 a.m.
Rescue 21's crew helped contain the spilled fluids and then stood by with Rescue 22 until both wrecked autos were towed away. (The northbound side of Lawrence Road was closed by police until the towing was completed.)
All units cleared the scene at 12:02 p.m. Rescue 22 was back in quarters by 12:05 p.m.
