SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT (ASSIST POLICE)
55 Fairfield Road, Lawrence Township
On Tuesday, June 13, 2006, Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers were called out to assist township police after an elderly resident of Fairfield Avenue was found deceased in his home.
The 77-year-old man was believed by police to have died of natural causes several days – possibly even a week or more – earlier.
Because of the condition of the body, police required the use of firefighters boots and self-contained breathing apparatus to enter the residence.
Station 22 was dispatched at 4:43 p.m. for the non-emergency special assignment.
Chief Wayne Hannon and Assistant Chief Shaun Dlabik both responded at 4:44 p.m.
Dlabik arrived on scene at 4:45 p.m., followed by Hannon at 4:47 p.m.
Rescue 22 responded at 4:50 p.m. and arrived on location at 4:53 p.m. with Capt. Michael Byrd in command, Ff. Matt Farletta driving, and a crew of Ff. Adam Rivera, Ff. Steve Hodgdon, Ff. R.J. Laird, Ff. Charles Commini Jr. and Ff. Ryan Dlabik.
Rescue 22’s crew provided police with the equipment they needed. All equipment was then decontaminated on the scene.
Firefighters remained on scene until the deceased man’s body was removed by the county medical examiner. Rescue 22 was back in quarters by 7:20 p.m.
