MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT
Interstate 95 South, Milepost 6.3,
During a rainstorm on the evening of Wednesday, June 14, 2006, Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers were among the emergency personnel who responded to an accident in which a car had veered off the roadway on Interstate 95.
It was 8:01 p.m. when the Mercer County Central Communications Center dispatched all three Lawrence Township fire companies – Lawrenceville (Station 23), Lawrence Road (Station 22) and Slackwood (Station 21) – to the crash near milepost 6.3 on the southbound side of I-95.
Rescue 22 responded with Capt. Michael Byrd in command, Ff. Matt Farletta driving, and a crew that included Ff. Ryan Dlabik, Ff. Steven Hodgdon, Ff. R.J. Laird, Ff. Jarred Pierson, and Ff. Evan Kutzin.
Chief Wayne Hannon responded in Car 22, and Assistant Chief Shaun Dlabik responded in Car 22-1.
On arrival, Farletta positioned Rescue 22 across the right southbound lane and shoulder to protect rescuers from approaching traffic.
Members of Rescue 22’s crew then helped Rescue 23’s crew stabilize the car, which was over an embankment and among the trees along the side of the highway.
The driver of the vehicle was not trapped but had to be assisted to safety because of the precarious angle at which the car sat.
Once the driver was safely out of the car, Rescue 22 was released by Command 23 and returned to quarters by 8:31 p.m.
