SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT (ASSIST POLICE)

38 Pine Knoll Drive,
Lawrence Township

Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers were dispatched to help police check on the welfare of an elderly resident at 38 Pine Knoll Drive during the evening of Tuesday, August 1, 2006.

It was 5:13 p.m. when, at the request of Lawrence Township police, Station 22 was toned out for the assignment by the Mercer County Central Communications Center.

Chief Wayne Hannon responded at 5:14 p.m., followed by Telesquirt 22 at 5:16 p.m.

Telesquirt 22 was commanded by Capt. Michael Byrd, driven by Assistant Chief Shaun Dlabik, and crewed by Ff. Steve Hodgdon, Ff. Adam Rivera, Ff. Mark Lenarski Jr. and Junior Ff. Todd Lenarski.

Hannon arrived on scene at 5:18 p.m., followed two minutes later by Telesquirt 22.

Firefighters met with police and then forced entry to the home. Officers then entered and, unfortunately, found the 84-year-old female resident deceased, of apparently natural causes.

Firefighter stood by on scene and eventually, at the request of the police, used a positive pressure fan to ventilate the dwelling.

All Station 22 units were released from the scene by police around 6:30 p.m.
