MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT
Interstate 95 North near Federal City Road,
Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers were among the emergency personnel who responded to a motor vehicle accident with entrapment in the early morning of Sunday, August 6, 2006.
Lawrenceville Fire Co. (Station 23), Rescue 22 from Lawrence Road Fire Co. and Rescue 21 from Slackwood Fire Co. were all dispatched at 6:41 a.m. when Box 23-10 was transmitted by Mercer County Central Communications Center for an overturned vehicle on Interstate 95.
Lawrenceville Chief Dave Burns responded at 6:42 a.m., followed by Lawrence Road Deputy Chief Chris Pangaldi in Car 22-1 and Chief Wayne Hannon in Car 22 at 6:43 a.m.
Rescue 22 responded at 6:45 a.m., followed by Rescue 21 and Rescue 23 at 6:46 a.m.
Rescue 22 was commanded by Capt. Michael Byrd, driven by Ff. Joseph Dlabik Sr., and crewed by Ff. Brian Laue, Ff. R.J. Laird, Ff. Joseph Dlabik Jr., Ff. Adam Rivera and Ff. Evan Kutzin.
At 6:46 a.m., a Lawrence First Aid Squad (Squad 129) ambulance crew reported that they were on the scene, along the northbound side of Interstate 95 between Route 31 and Federal City Road, and had a car on its side with the driver still inside.
Burns and Hannon reached the scene at 6:49 a.m., followed by Rescue 23 at 6:51 a.m. Pangaldi arrived at 6:53 a.m., followed by Rescue 21 at 6:54 a.m. and Rescue 22 at 6:56 a.m.
Rescue 22’s crew stood by while EMS personnel and Rescue 23’s crew helped free the vehicle’s driver. The extrication was completed by 7 a.m.
The driver was then transported by ambulance to an area hospital.
At 7:06 a.m. Rescue 22 and Rescue 21 were recalled by Burns. Rescue 23 cleared the scene just a few minutes later. Rescue 22 was back in quarters at Station 22 by 7:11 a.m.
