Woods off Alyce Court,
Lawrence Township

A stubborn tree fire kept Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers busy during the evening of Friday, August 18, 2006.

It was 7:54 p.m. when Station 22 members were toned out for a possible brush fire in the area of Merritt Drive.

Chief Wayne Hannon responded in Car 22, and Deputy Chief Chris Pangaldi responded in Car 22-1. Telesquirt 22 responded with Assistant Chief Shaun Dlabik in command, Ff. Joseph Dlabik Sr. driving, and Ff. R.J. Laird, Ff. Adam Rivera, and Ff. Joseph Dlabik Jr. as the crew.

Firefighters arrived to find an old tree smoldering in the woods off Alyce Court. The tree was mostly hollow and was burning from its base all the way to its upper branches.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and then used a chainsaw to cut down the tree.

Brush 23 from Lawrenceville Fire Co. was special-called to the scene to help hose down the area to prevent a rekindle of the fire.

Meanwhile, Rescue 22 and Lawrenceville’s Rescue 23 were dispatched at 7:55 p.m. to a hazardous materials incident involving fuel leaking from a crack in the gas tank of a 1996 BMW parked in front of 16 Burning Tree Lane.

Rescue 22 was commanded by Ff. Charles Commini Jr. and driven by Ff. John Britton, with a crew of Ff. Evan Kutzin, Ff. Jarred Pierson and Ff. Steve Adzima.

Firefighters plugged the leak with putty and used speedie-dry to absorb the spilled gas.
