OVERTURNED VEHICLE

Route 1 Freeway,
Lawrence Township



Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers were among the emergency personnel who responded to the scene of an overturned vehicle during the early morning of Wednesday, October 18, 2006.

It was 2:24 a.m. when the Mercer County Central Communications Center transmitted Box 21-10 and dispatched Slackwood Fire Co. (Station 21), Rescue 22 from Lawrence Road Fire Co. and Rescue 23 from Lawrenceville Fire Co. for a one-vehicle accident with unknown injury or entrapment on the southbound side of the Route 1 Freeway, just north of Whitehead Road.

Lawrence Road Deputy Chief Chris Pangaldi responded in Car 22-1 at 2:24 a.m., while Slackwood Chief Michael Oakley responded in Car 21 at 2:27 a.m.

Rescue 21 responded at 2:29 a.m., followed by Rescue 23 at 2:31 a.m. and Rescue 22 at 2:32 a.m.

Rescue 22 was commanded by Ff. Joseph Dlabik Jr. and driven by Ff. Brian Laue, with Ff. Adam Rivera and Ff. R.J. Laird as the crew.

At 2:31 a.m. Pangaldi arrived on scene, followed one minute later by Oakley. They found one vehicle overturned, but there were no injuries or entrapment.

As a result, Rescue 23 was recalled at 2:34 a.m.

Rescue 21 arrived on scene at 2:34 a.m., followed by Rescue 22 at 2:40 a.m.

Rescue 22ís light tower was raised to illuminate the scene and firefighters stood by until a tow truck uprighted and removed the wrecked auto. A small amount of speedie dry was spread to absorb about two quarts of oil spilled onto the road from the vehicle.

Rescue 22 was released at 2:58 a.m. and was back in quarters by 3:04 a.m.
