Ewing Township

During the morning of Monday, November 6, 2006, a crew of Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers responded mutual aid into Ewing Township to serve as the rapid intervention team at the scene of a working structure fire.

Having just taken up from the scene of a smoke condition caused by a defective heater in a house on Short Olden Avenue, crews from all three Ewing fire companies were in the process of returning to their respective firehouses when Mercer County Central transmitted Box 31-10 for a reported house fire at 1628 Thirteenth Street at 6:54 a.m.

At 6:55 a.m. Squirt 31 responded and reported that heavy smoke was visible in the air. As a result, Mercer County Central dispatched Lawrence Road’s Rescue 22 as the RIT at 6:56 a.m.

Engine 32 also responded at 6:55 a.m., followed by Ladder Tower 33 at 6:57 a.m., and then Rescue 22 at 7 a.m.

Rescue 22 was commanded by Capt. Michael Ratcliffe, driven by Ff. Andrew Fosina and crewed by Ff. Adam Rivera, Ff. Evan Kutzin, Ff. R.J. Laird, and Ff. Joseph Dlabik Jr.

Squirt 31 arrived at 6:57 a.m., followed by Engine 32 at 6:58 a.m., Ladder Tower 33 at 7:05 a.m. and Rescue 22 at 7:06 a.m.

Rescue 22 stood by as RIT while Ewing firefighters went to work. The blaze, which was declared under control at 7:09 a.m., was contained to a utility room.

Rescue 22 was released at 7:45 a.m. and back in quarters by 7:53 a.m.
