Basin Road, near Bakers Basin Road,
Lawrence Township

During the evening of Wednesday, December 20, 2006, a crew of Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers helped extricate the driver of a car that overturned on Basin Road near Bakers Basin Road.

The accident occurred about 9:30 p.m. when a 46-year-old man lost control after his left front tire blew out while he was driving east on Basin Road. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its roof, trapping Shelmet inside.

Rescuers from all three township fire companies and the Lawrence Township First Aid Squad were dispatched at 9:32 p.m.

Rescue 22 responded at 9:34 p.m. with Assistant Chief Shaun Dlabik in command, Ff. Matt Farletta driving, and a crew of R.J. Laird, Ff. Steven Hodgdon, Ff. Jarred Pierson, Ff. Joseph Dlabik Jr., Ff. Mark Lenarski Jr., and Ff. Michael Guala.

Deputy Chief Chris Pangaldi also responded to the scene in his own vehicle.

Rescue 22 was the first apparatus to arrive on scene at 9:38 p.m., closely followed by Rescue 21 and Rescue 23.

Crews stabilized the vehicle with Junkyard Dogs struts, and a 1.75-inch hoseline was stretched as a precaution from Rescue 22.

The victim was extricated from the wreckage by 9:49 p.m. and was rushed by ambulance to Capital Health System at Fuld hospital in Trenton, where he was treated for neck and back injuries.

Rescue 22 remained on scene until 12:08 a.m. providing lights for police investigators and was back in quarters by 12:14 a.m.
