During the month of August 2008, Lawrence Road Fire Co. volunteers responded to a total of 50 emergency calls. Below are details and photographs from some of the more noteworthy alarms and other non-emergency fire company activities that took place during the month.

Date & Time: Wednesday, August 6, 2008 – 2:36 a.m.
Location: Engine Co. #1, 460 Calhoun Street, City of Trenton, N.J.
Details: At 2:36 a.m. Lawrence Road Fire Co. was dispatched with a request for Rescue 22 to relocate to the Calhoun Street firehouse to help cover Trenton while city firefighters were busy battling a two-alarm fire involving two homes in the 400 block of Walnut Avenue. Rescue 22 arrived at TFD Station 1 at 2:49 a.m. During the standby assignment, Rescue 22 was dispatched to two emergency assignments. At 4:10 a.m. Rescue 22, Slackwood’s Snorkel 21, and Prospect Heights’ Engine 31 were sent to investigate a fire alarm at 260 North Wilow Street. That alarm was found to be the result of a system malfunction. Then at 4:45 a.m. Rescue 22, Hamilton’s Ladder 14 and Trenton Engine 9 were dispatched to a fire alarm at Capital Health System at Fuld hospital. That alarm was found to be an accidental activation caused by steam from a coffee pot. Rescue 22 was finally released from the cover assignment at 5:47 a.m. and was back in quarters at Station 22 by 6:08 a.m.

Date & Time: Wednesday, August 13, 2008 – 8:16 p.m.
Location: Prospect Auto Spa, 1463 Prospect Street, Ewing Township, N.J.
Details: All three Ewing Township fire companies and Lawrence Road’s Rescue 22 were dispatched on Box 31-10 after a passing Ewing police officer spotted smoke pouring from the Prospect Auto Spa car wash. Squirt 31, Ladder Tower 31 and Engine 32 all arrived at 8:23 p.m., followed by Ladder Tower 33, Rescue 22, and Rescue 32 all at 8:26 p.m., and then Engine 31-1 and Engine 33-1 at 8:31 p.m. and 8:34 p.m., respectively. Rescue 22’s crew stood by as rapid intervention team while Ewing firefighters contained and extinguished the fire, which had started in a commercial dryer used to dry towel and rags. The blaze was declared under control at 8:29 p.m. At 8:38 p.m. Rescue 22 and several other units were recalled. Rescue 22 was back in quarters by 8:53 p.m.

Date & Time: Wednesday, August 27, 2008 – 9:45 p.m.
Location: Quakerbridge Road at Lawrence Square Boulevard, Lawrence Township, N.J.
Details: Crews from Lawrenceville, Lawrence Road and Slackwood fire companies were dispatched on Box 23-60 for a two-vehicle collision with one driver confirmed trapped. Rescue 23 arrived on location at 9:53 p.m., followed by Rescue 22 and Rescue 21 at 9:55 p.m. Firefighters quickly cut away the driver’s door and had the trapped patient extricated by 10:03 p.m. Rescue 22 was back in quarters by 10:27 p.m.
