STRUCTURE FIRE
Date & Time: Saturday, December 13, 2008 11:33 p.m.
Location: 21 Tudor Lane, Lawrence Township, N.J.
Details: Slackwood, Lawrence Road and Lawrenceville fire companies, along with Squirt 31 from Prospect Heights Fire Co., were dispatched at 11:33 p.m. on Box 21-13 for a reported house fire. Police officers arrived on scene to find heavy smoke issuing from a two-story dwelling with residents reporting that their second-floor laundry room was ablaze. As a result, all Lawrence fire companies were retoned for a working fire and the Enterprise and Pennington Road fire companies were dispatched at 11:42 p.m. and 11:45 p.m., respectively, as the balance of the first alarm. Engine 22 and Engine 21-1 arrived at 11:39 p.m., followed by Snorkel 21 at 11:42 p.m. Engine 22s crew advanced the first hoseline inside and began attacking the flames on the second-floor landing and in the laundry room. Engine 21-1s crew, meanwhile, established water supply for Engine 22, while Snorkel 21s crew attended to ventilation. Telequirt 22 reached the scene next at 11:45 p.m., followed by Telesquirt 23, Squirt 31, Ladder Tower 23, Engine 14-2 and Rescue 32. After knocking down all visible fire, Engine 22s crew and other crews pulled the second-floor ceiling to access the fire that had extended into the attic above the laundry room. Telesquirt 22s crew, meanwhile, reported to the attached exposure building on Side D to check for fire extension. Fortunately, there was no extension and the fire was held to the second floor and attic of the original building. The blaze was officially declared under control at midnight. After assisting with overhaul, Telesquirt 22s crew was released at 12:54 a.m. and was back in quarters by 1 a.m. Engine 22 cleared the scene at 1:13 a.m. and was in quarters by 1:18 a.m. Investigators later concluded that the fire had originated in the clothes dryer and spread from there.
